Make your own design coasters.
A workshop by House Raccoon.
Making personal coasters with jesmonite, a colour palette, smashing things and a bit of sparkle.
I’ve been fangirling about House Raccoon for a while now. I like how their products look (and feel!) and I’m an even bigger fan of their mission and values. Check them out at https://houseraccoon.com/.
When Kim decided to host one of their workshops in het interior store, I didn’t think twice. Find her lovely interior store in Laarne & on http://www.kiminteriordesign.com/.
The material we worked with (and that of all House Raccoon products) was Jesmonite. It reminded me of the gypsum play set I had as a kid. It’s actually quite easy to work with, the hardest thing being getting the colour right. The good news, as Anneleen said, is that you practically can’t mess it up because of the terrazzo element. That same terrazzo also keeps the result a surprise, even to yourself. I went for a more natural palette to have the coasters ‘match’ the abundance of plants in my living room. I was pleased with the mixed colours but surprised to find the light green colour looks more blue in the finished coaster. Despite not ending up with my envisioned result, I was (and am) still very happy with the coasters. I’m happy I decided to add a splash of glitter and I can’t get over how soft they feel after sanding them and applying some beeswax.
Considering trying to get my hands on some Jesmonite to keep playing. To be continued.

Their policy to plant a tree per sold product also applies to workshops btw.
