KID-Rock
A festival for children.
I WAS A PROUD PART OF THE KID-ROCK CREW FROM 2010-2013.
We voluntarily organised a festival for children every second Friday of July.
Besides the musical acts, we also made sure there’s enough animation on the side, so the annoying little monster of boredom has no chance.
What started out in 2008 as a joint summer kick off for two local holiday day care organisations (Wesp Wetteren & Rollebolle Laarne) soon turned into one of Flanders' most popular kids- and youth festivals with loads of artists and side animation entertaining over 2500 visitors.
During my time there I was responsible for all things communication and making sure the smaller logistics were running smooth on the day itself. I also learned a lot about planning, budgets, sponsoring, working with third parties and how to decorate a terrain in the pouring rain.
I’ve made my grandfather proud when my press release showed up in the news paper, I’ve learnt how to deal with stressy situations that fight for my attention, improved my thinking-on-my-feet and figured out creative solutions together with the superheroes that were my logistics team. I was talking into two walkies at the same time while texting with my left hand and doing sign language with my right.
The festival’s still going strong: check out www.kid-rock.be for more information.

The highlights
A little girl had lost her group, she didn’t seem too worried and told me she was dreaming and had wandered off. I looked down the check her name tag and saw it read ‘Tess’. Well hello mini-me.
Climbing above the stage to take pictures while the headliner was playing and looking down to soo all those happy faces on a sunny day after a week of preparing in the rain and sharing the moment with a good friend.
After an unfortunate fall where I hit my head resulting in a minor concussion, I was still suffering some short term memory loss in the week prior to the festival. Not being able to rely on my own head during all the last-minute chaos was brutal and never have I written and drawn so much on my arms. But I pulling it off was v-e-r-y rewarding.
